Diet and Healthy skin - an Intimate Relationship
I could write down all the right vegetables and fruits to eat for healthy skin and you could just eat from the list. And then I could provide you with a list of all the things to avoid having a healthy skin. But when it comes right down to it, you need to understand the connection between our interior organs (liver, kidney, colon, immune system) and the skin. The skin is the outside reflection of what is happening inside our body. The skin mirrors our state of health.
One does not go without the others. It does not matter how much creams and lotions you put on, it does not matter how good those creams and lotions are, if your digestive and immune system do not function properly, your skin will reflect just that. When you look at yourself in the mirror when feeling tired or, say you have a cold for example, your skin will looks tired and unhealthy as well. Doctors educated in Eastern medicine, naturopaths and homeopaths are trained to read your skin and the outside of your body to determine your health and go directly to the cause of the issue rather than addressing the effects.
The Connection between digestive system and skin conditions.
- Dry patches, break out, red skin, dark circles under the eyes are usually treated with skin care creams and lotion. Yet these conditions could be a sluggish liver, hormone unbalances or food allergies.
- A weaken immune system may show up on the skin with eczema or blemishes.
- Dull skin or hair is very often the result of to much process foods, transfats or improper digestion.
- According to Dr Lytle, break out on the forehead or chin can be indicative to digestive issues.
- A diet to rich in carbohydrate, not enough good fats or proper protein can be responsible for acne or oily skin.
- A liver tired by to much alcohol, caffeine or medication will affect your skin clarity and look
- Not enough water, salty diet, lack of antioxidants can cause extra dry skin.
And the list can go on. The skin is the mirror of our health. So a good diet for healthy skin is a good diet for optimum health as well. If you treat the cause versus the effects you will benefits from long lasting results.
Changing your diet will be effective but for long lasting results you need to cleanse your digestive system. Let’s use the following analogy:
Imagine a room that you would like to repaint with fresh new paint. If you are painting directly over the old coat, your new paint is going to peel off and the result will be quite unaesthetic. If you take the time to scrape the old paint, sand the wall, fix a few cracks and then put your new coat of paint, the result will be: A beautiful new room that will stay beautiful for a long time. It is no different for your skin, health and the food you eat. You need to cleanse your body and get rid of unwanted toxins, parasites and over things that slow down the digestive system or weaken the immune system.
In today’s word, processed foods, junk and fast foods, chemicals and toxins have destroy the taste, the quality and the main purpose of foods: Pleasure and providing our body with nutrients for ultimate function. The quality of our foods today is terrible. Just look at the many issues related to foods that have been developing in the last 10 years. Allergies directly cause by food (seafood, banana, peanuts or some key components like lactose, wheat or gluten) have been so much on the rise that we are now developing foods for specific conditions. (Celiac is a prime example)
The look of our skin is the direct results of the good functioning of our organs and the quality of the food we eat.
